First Round playoff summaries
Western 6, Hudson Valley 5
Western barely gets by Hudson Valley 6-5 in an exciting overtime win. Davis Prince had the game winner for Western after receiving a pass in transition and sticking an incredible behind the back shot with less than a minute to go in overtime. Prince also had an assist in the game. Kevin McDermott scored a goal and assisted on another for Hudson Valley. Face offs were split fifty-fifty. Hudson Valley keeper Michael Farber made a whopping 15 saves, keeping his squad alive. Goalie Liam Guiton stopped 6 shots for Western.
Central 10, Adirondack 4
After two consecutive losses to end the day yesterday, Central topped Adirondack to advance to the semi-finals. Ryan Cook led the way for Central with 1 goal and 4 assists, Bennett registered 3 goals and 1 assist, and Mann tallied 3 goals. Adirondack goalie Riley Smith recorded 6 saves in one half of play. Central moves on to play Long Island in the first semi-final game. In their previous matchup Long Island dominated Central 8-3.
Second Round
Long Island 10, Central 6
Long Island tops Central 10-6 to reach the Gold Medal game. Long Island led Central 8-2 at halftime. Central went on a run in the third quarter scoring 3 goals to get within 3, but could not keep the pedal down. Long Island scored 2 goals in the fourth quarter and held Central to only 1. Both Brian Gaffney and Jason Debenedictis had hat tricks for Long Island, while Ryan cook finished the game with 4 goals for Central. Central goalies Nehring and Smith combined for 12 saves. Long Island moves on to the Gold Medal game tomorrow, while Central will play for Bronze.
New York City 11, Western 6
Joseph Licciardi nets 5 goals as New York City outlasts Western 11-6. New York City held a comfortable lead throughout the game, fueled by their prolific offensive players Licciardi, Andrew Custance (2,0), and Mike Perkins (2,0). Western’s scoring leaders were Jon Januskzkiewicz who scored twice and Josh Rubin who collected a goal and an assist. New York City will play in the Gold Medal game against Long Island on Sunday at 12:30pm. Western will play Central for the Bronze at 11am.
Bronze Medal Game – Central 15, Western 6
Central took a 7-2 halftime lead and dominated at the face off X (19-of-24) behind Andrew Potter (10-of-13) and Henry Mann (9-of-10). Potter and Matthew Bennett each scored 4 goals and Ryan Cook contributed 1 goal and 2 assists.
Gold Medal Game – New York City 4, Long Island 2
Goaltenders Dylan Moser (six saves) and Daniel Katzman (seven) combined for 13 saves while John Carrigan and Dominick Calistoto led the defense as NYC won its second straight championship.
Mike Perkins scored first for NYC before Jason Debenedictis tied it on a pass from Troy Miller. New York City pulled ahead for good, 2-1, in the second quarter on an unassisted tally from Patrick O’Rourke. Jake Schneider scored on a feed from Perkins, and then William Pasik scored unassisted to make it 4-1. Paul Guarino scored the final goal for LI.
