Pearl River (N.Y.) 2017 midfielder Mike Carbone has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Canisius College.
Mike Carbone profile:

High School: Pearl River High School, N.Y.
Graduation Year: 2017
Position: Midfield
College Committed to: Canisius College
Club affiliation: Team United (NJ)
Lacrosse Honors: Multiple time Capital Challenge All-Star, 2016 Rockland All-League and All-County HM, 2016 & 2017 led PRHS in goals and points
Academic Honors: College Prep, Honor Roll
What will you major in/study? Economics in the Richard J. Wehle School of Business
Why did you choose the school? “I originally committed to Ithaca College in 2016, but after a few months I knew there might be a better fit for me financially. Once Coach (Randy) Mearns and (Brendan) Murphy invited me to the Canisius campus, I was very impressed by the School of Business and their focus on developing ethical business leaders for the global marketplace. The cost was affordable and the Golden Griffins lacrosse team exuded discipline, hard work and camaraderie. It is also Division 1, which has been one of my goals since I started playing. Canisius is absolutely the perfect fit for me.”
HS team’s outlook for 2017 season? “Spring 2016 was my first year with the PRHS lacrosse team. I previously played for Albertus Magnus in 2014 and 2015. Therefore, this question is difficult to answer. PRHS is now coming off of a not so great 2016 season. But, the team is in a better place this year, with good players who moved up to varsity, and I am confident in the 2017 season. #PiratePride.”
Thank You: “I especially thank my Mom and Dad for putting up with me throughout high school and the recruiting process. I thank Coach Carcaterra and Coach Zoni of United Lacrosse; I wouldn’t be the player or person I am today without them. Plus, my teammates on Team United (NJ) Black 2017! I also thank Sean Kelly of Sean Kelly’s Lacrosse Training for introducing me to Coach Carc and Sean’s staff for helping to develop my skills and technique. I also thank Coach Travaglino at PRHS lacrosse for his support. I also owe my beginning of lacrosse to Albertus Magnus High School.”
Other schools considered: Sacred Heart University, Pace, Limestone, Queens University of Charlotte, Mount St. Mary’s University, amongst others.
