Boys’ results, rosters for Hanover Lions ‘Byrne Cup’ Twin State All-Star Games

TopLaxRecruits, Posted 6/29/13

New Hampshire defeated Vermont, 12-9, in the 2013 Hanover Lions “Byrne Cup” Twin State All-Star Game on June 22 at Hanover High, N.H.

Dan Auger (Nashua) led the New Hampshire seniors with two goals and an assist and Mackenzie Tetreault (Kingswood Regional) added two goals. Thomas Vanzo (Essex) had a goal and two assists and Patrick Abbott (Essex) had 16 saves for Vermont.

The boys’ game is in its 21st year. All participants were graduated/graduating seniors chosen by their respective coaches’ associations as outstanding players from their respective states of Vermont and New Hampshire. Players from schools that do not play within the guidelines set by each state’s interscholastic athletic body are not eligible.

The Games are sponsored by the Hanover (NH) Lions Club, and all net proceeds will go toward funding charities and programs the Lions support. Several private, individual donors have graciously contributed significant donations of money or time, and several businesses have generously purchased advertising in the program to help reduce the cost of the Tournament to the players, and the Hanover Lions wish to publicly thank those sponsors and advertisers. Also, the Lions would like to thank the two states’ coaches’ associations and all the volunteer helpers for their efforts in making the event possible.

In addition to Vin Fucile, founder of the All-Star Games and owner of Forth ‘N Goal sports of Middlebury, VT, who passed away unexpectedly in 1997, the Games this year were dedicated to the memory of Jack Byrne, who passed away on March 7, 2013, and who, along with his wife Dorothy, established the Byrne Foundation for philanthropic purposes. The Foundation donated to many charitable, non-profit and other worthwhile causes throughout the Upper Valley and beyond.

The Byrne Foundation has been the most significant donor/sponsor/supporter of the Twin State All-Star Lacrosse Games for many years. Furthermore, in honor of the Byrne family and Byrne Foundation, established this year, to be continued onward every year hereafter, a trophy called the Byrne Cup for the winning team, both boys and girls (one trophy each), of this All-Star event. These trophies will be awarded following each game, the cups will be inscribed with each year’s winning state and game score, and will be kept in custodial care by the Hanover Lions.
