Clearview Regional (N.J.) sophomore midfielder Matt Donnelly has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Hofstra University.

Matt Donnelly ledger:

Matt Donnelly

High School: Clearview Regional High School, N.J.

Graduation Year: 2015

Position: Midfield

College Choice: Hofstra University

Club Affiliation:
Dukes LC and SJ Shamrocks

Major lacrosse honors, camps: Crabfeast Champions, Tri-State National Champions, Lax Evo Champions, Battle of the Hotbeds All-Star, Big 4 Showcase All-Star,

Academic honors, service: Varsity Club, Latin Club, DECA, Peer Mediation

What will you major in/study? Business

Why did you choose the school?
“I chose Hofstra for many reasons. As soon as I stepped on the campus I loved it, the size and location of the school was also a big reason. Hofstra has a great reputation with lacrosse and academics, and lacrosse being the number one sport on campus was pretty cool too.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next season? “We graduated a lot of key players last year, but I believe we will be very competitive and make an appearance to the South Jersey Group 4 playoffs again.”

Thank yous:
“First and foremost I would like to thank my friends and family for all the support and for taking me to all my lacrosse events. I would also like to thanks to Dukes coaches Ebe Helm, Jason Christmas, Mike Mackrides, and Joe Vetrone; and my Shamrocks coaches Bill Keane, Mike Yarusso, John Cipriani and Steve Picot for guiding me through the process and helping grow as a player and a person.

“I would also like to thank my high school coaches, Rob Rieck, Mike Cockrell, and Brett Severino, for teaching all about how to play at the high school level, and help with the recruiting process.

“I would like to thank my youth coaches John Graham, Pat Hall, Mark Deal Dave Reamer, and John Vesey for teaching all about the game on and off the field.

“Finally, I would like to thank the Sutton Family for getting me interested in the game and for helping me progress as a player; and the use of their backyard net and letting me practice out there.”

Other schools considered? Michigan, Marquette, St. Joe’s, Villanova, High Point, Rutgers, Lehigh
