BROOKLANDVILLE, Md. – Carter Flaig had five goals and two assists as host St.Paul’s School routed Loyola Blakefield, 19-9, today in MIAA boys’ lacrosse.
The Crusaders, ranked No. 4 by TopLaxRecruits.com, improved to 12-1 and 2-1 in the MIAA. Loyola Blakefield fell to 7-5 and 0-3.
The Crusaders have rebounded nicely since a 13-12 loss to Calvert Hall in the league opener. They defeated Archbishop Spaulding, 10-7, in their next league game and looked impressive today with the surprisingly easy victory.
“We have a lot of confidence in these kids,” said St. Paul’s coach Rick Brocato.”They show us that they are very resilient. I think that (loss) brought us closer together.
“Then we went to (Archbishop) Spaulding and got our first league win in over a year and got the gorilla off our backs. Then we had two great days of practice and we had a great game plan and I think expected everything we saw.”
Alex McGovern had three goals and two assists for St. Paul’s while Ben Linkous scored three goals. A.J. Barretto had 12 saves.
“I think winning in preseason did give us confidence,” said Brocato, whose team went just 3-15 last year and is arguably one of the most improved squads in the country. “We learned how to win and now we are learning how to win in the league.”
Alex Roesner and Ryan Conrad each had three goals for the Dons.
