The Blake School (MN) rising senior LSM-midfielder Eric Hartman has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Colby College.
Eric Hartman ledger:
High School: The Blake School, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Graduation Year: 2014
Position: LSM/Defense
College Choice: Colby College
Club Affiliation: Minnesota Elite
Major lacrosse honors, All-Star teams, Camps, Showcases: BlueChip 225 All-Star, All-Section
What will you major in/study? Economics or Mathematics
Why did you choose Colby? “Originally I was attracted to its outstanding academic reputation and when I found out that Waterville had a similar feel to a small Minnesotan town I was enticed. After visiting though I fell in love with the campus; all the buildings match and the library is breathtaking.
“Coach (John) Odierna and Coach (Steve) Opgenorth are great guys and really made my visit a pleasure which made the decision a no brainer. I talked with a couple of student athletes and guys I knew who had been there and everyone agreed it would be a great fit. I also talked with a junior middie on the team who told me that it was an incredibly tight knit group which is exactly what I’m looking for, coming from a great tight knit group of guys at Blake.”
What are your thoughts on this past HS lacrosse season/team’s outlook for next season? “This past season was exceptional especially towards the end. We really came together and started playing our game when it really mattered. I definitely think we re-branded ourselves as a force to be reckoned with after winning the section final for the first time in 6 years.
“Next year will have it’s ups and downs but I think we can expect to see great things from a defensive perspective. We return the majority of our starting D for the third year in a row which has been a huge piece of our success. We also return our entire attack and all but one middie; our offense will do big things. The culture of Blake lacrosse makes us a great team; the guys are always pushing each other and putting in those extra hours.”
Thank You: “I’d just like to thank my program and all the coaches along the way who made me the player and person I am today. A lot of what comes into play in lacrosse is character and I couldn’t have asked for a more exceptional group of coaches and players to develop me as a person. And then there’s my family; they’ve been supporting me since day one paying for camps and just encouraging me when I got down, in addition to molding me into a mature young man. They were pertinent to my success as a student and an athlete.”
Other schools considered: Haverford, Williams, Denison, Kenyon
