From Press Release
ML8 Events is proud to announce the completion of the first annual Future Phenoms College Combine in Tampa, FL. The event saw a tremendous turnout December 16th and 17th during the College Combine format with 200 participants and over 20 top Head and Assistant DI, DII, and DIII College Coaches. By design, the better than 10:1 player to Coach ratio allowed for intimate skill instruction.
Players started each morning separated by position, with coaches working on individual skills and techniques. The overall skill development progressed from individual stickwork, applying learned techniques to finally playing as a team in a scrimmage format.
“It was refreshing to attend a recruiting event this past weekend that featured 25% games and 75% teaching and drills led by notable D1 coaches,” said Recruiting Rundown’s Ty Xanders.
The camp also featured Shaun Church’s MUDD Academy speed and agility footwork session where players were exposed to not only great stick work drills but received training on footwork and agility that they can take home and practice. “We really wanted to create an overall training experience to make them not only a better lacrosse player, but develop them into stronger athletes,” said Jessica Pacitto, ML8 Events coordinator.
Parents attended two different college sessions lead by the Salisbury School’s Assistant Headmaster and Head of College Advisement Bobby Wynne. Coach Wynne spoke to parents about NCAA requirements, SAT/ACT prep, the recruiting process and the right fit college for their son. Parents also heard from Johns Hopkins Head Coach Dave Pietramala about what a day in the life is like for a Division I athlete and as a Coach what he looks for in players. Notre Dame’s Assistant Coach Matt Karweck and Tufts University Assistant Coach Jon Sax also spoke to the parents about being NCAA athletes and what Coaches are searching for in a player. Parents had the opportunity to ask questions directly to the Coaches leaving them well informed on what to expect for their sons recruiting future.
“This was an AMAZING event. The skill work was top notch, but more importantly the Coaches were fully engaged and so down to earth; it was wonderful for the boys,” said Sandy Paulson whose son Ryan was in attendance for the training.
ML8 Events is excited to announce that next year’s event will take place in Tampa on December 15th and 16th with a similar showcase also taking place in the Northeast around late June.
