WESTTOWN, Pa – Matt Lowther said the Brotherhood Lacrosse (N.J.) 2019 team was well prepared to succeed at the Boys’ Summer Slam.
“It was our dedication all week; we had very hard and intense practices,” said the midfielder from Nanuet (NY.).
Brotherhood’s hard work paid off Saturday and Sunday as it swept its five games and routed Rock Lacrosse 2019 Top 44 (MD/PA), 11-3, to win the 2019 AA championship at Westtown School.
The Summer Slam, run by Victory Events, featured 231 teams.
Brotherhood, which outscored its foes, 41-12, jumped to a 5-0 halftime lead over Rock Lacrosse and stretched it to 10-0 midway through the second half. Attackman John Corry (Glen Rock, NJ) had four goals and Lowther, who took faceoffs, also scored two goals. LSM David Fletcher (Riverdell, NJ), Kyle Muldoon (Pearl River, NY), Dillon Fisher (Demarest, NJ) and Travis Hinds (Demarest) also scored once each whie Connor Breen (Northern Highlands, NJ) and Ethan Perlmutter (Demarest) handled the goaltending duties.
“It all starts with the warmups; we had fun in warmups and and everyone was on fire today,” said Corry. “We all had our best games all year.”
Added Lowther: “Everyone wanted it today. It was a team effort. I think what helps is that our team stays together; no one leaves to go to another program It’s our fourth year together and that builds chemistry.”
The event also drew 36 college coaches. Corry said the new recruiting rules have positive and negatives.
“I don’t like that it happened in the middle of our (recruiting) time, the timing wasn’t good,” he said “But now we can play freely and not worry about forgetting about you if you make a bad play.”
